Wednesday
November 28
I am trying to pull some photos aside to print up for mini-gifts
for christmas. It's easy to get distracted and start laughing about
old times. Here are some photos from our campfire breakfast several
years ago at the old house -- I think it was March or April. That's
Adam putting the bacon on.
In order to limit the number of trips in the house, we tried to
pretend we were really camping and that the back door wasn't 4 feet
away from our fire.
Something happening here with the eggs. And you can plainly
see why I am in need [still] of some slippers.
Everything was burnt and undercooked. But, the memories are delicious.
AH HAAA!!!!! LOL.

I opened up my new Garnet Hill catalog and I accidentally found
these! mmm.... mary
jane mules........on sale for $28.
Size 8.

It was our first year in our new home and it was quite a wonderful
dreary cold day for eating the comfort foods of Thanksgiving. This
year, it was all of the straight up goods -- nothing gourmet or
unusual.
We DID do a few things differently. I
added some Grand Marnier to the sweet potato mixture and we did
Alton
Brown's turkey brine. It was our first time cooking a turkey
and I think the brine was a HUGE success. We will definitely do
that every time from here out and definitely do an overnight brine
as doing it ON thanksgiving had us eating at 7pm (a little late
considering we had all day.)
I think eating earlier would have helped with an improved dinner
photo. Perhaps it would have been in focus. And maybe I would have
had a napkin at my place setting.

When a friend offered me free passes to see Enchanted,
I immediately said "no thanks" and muttered something
about not being part of the Patrick Dempsey Fan Club. She insisted
that I go and told me about the buzz.
Well, the only way you can hate this movie is if your heart is made
of ice, or if you see it 6 months after it opens and you've heard
too much hype.
I hope you can avoid both of those.

Massage
Monday November 19
Today's adventure started at Mecca
spa and gym. I cashed in on a gift certificate that I had received
from my place of employment, as a thank you for some overtime worked
on a tight deadline. I held it in my hot little hands since about
January of this year, waiting for us to move in to the new house.
You see, I had this thing where I didn't want to enjoy a decadent
moment, only to return to that 1-bedroom apartment with the framed
whale posters, picture of the kittens playing poker and the dark
plaid curtains in the bedroom.
I always forget EXACTLY how sublime a massage is. There is really
nothing else like it. Nothing.
There was one partcular nice moment when she was all finished and
I was laying there like a used dishrag and she told me to take my
time getting ready and there woud be some fresh water waiting for
me when I got up. I laid there -- but you can only lay there so
long, because you know you have to get up. I enjoyed a couple of
moments, put my robe on and when I opened the door, she was standing
there waiting. Seriously. She had a wooden tray. On it: A glass
of water and a hot folded washcloth. She was standing there. Waiting.
Note to self: Next year, make a massage appointment for 3:00
at Mecca. Have your husband pick you at 6:00 from the spa (it's
your birthday), and head on over to UCHI for dinner. Mmmm..... yes.

Sunday
November 18
I decided to return to my old habits of posting a christmas wish
list. I admit that it's pretty hard even for me to figure out what
I want.
1. Corpse Bride DVD
2.
Kitchen Essentials® from Calphalon® 2-qt. Saucepan - I got one
of these when I got married and loved it. But then i left it in
the oven with broil on and it was totally ruined to total toxicity.
Sadness...... Fortunately, I don't store pots and pans in the over
anymore. Normally I wouldn't as for pots and pans for Christmas--
is it pathetic? I don't know.
3.
Kitchen Essentials® from Calphalon® Hard Anodized Omelet Pan
with Cover - 10" by Calphalon. For that matter, any regular size
frying pan. Ours is hurting.
4. The Lightning Theif, The Sea of Monsters and Titan's
Curse by Rick Riordan. I've heard this is a good trilogy. (Maybe
I should just get book one first in case I don't like the others...)
5. A big mug. All of our mugs are normal size and sometimes I want
a big mug of tea.
6. Speaking of tea, this is my current favorite. White
Tangerine.
7. Still speaking of tea, I wonder how I would feel about an actual
tea pot to heat the water. Hmmm. Jury's still out.
8. A box grater.
9. Casual watch. something with a leather band. Perhaps this?
10. I'm too cheap to buy one of Donna
Hay's Magazines and I don't know how good they are but the photos
are amazing. It reminds of how I used to feel about Living. The
year subscription is spendy (out of Australia)... and that's why
this is a wish list.
11. For that matter, I don't have any subcriptions right now. We
let them all run out during the course of living in multiple locations.
12. Polaroid camera -- pulled that off my list from 3 years ago.
13. House slippers that I can wear with socks. (No funny slippers
no matter how cute).
I'll add more as I think of them.

Wednesday
November 14

At the asian market, we bought some "Big Jasmine Tea"
in bulk though I don't think that name refers to anything specific.
At $65.00/lb it was $5 for 4 of these buds. They are actually the
size of a walnut.
I
was convinced that they would open to reveal the pink as the flower
part, (something
like this) but that was not the case, as you can see below.
I mean, you can sorta see. Kinda.
We didn't drink it - I think the novelty aspect kinda turned my
appetite. Adam said it smelled like stadium bathroom soap. The pink
kind.

Monday
November 12

At Michael's today, I was checking out the line of Martha Stewart
Crafts. I haven't been in there in a while - maybe this is old news.
I almost picked up this collector's
box. I'm SURE I could find something tiny to put inside. Very
cute.

Thursday
November 8
Now that I have time on my hands, I am thinking about food a lot
and cooking. I've already made charro beans, apple pie, potato soup.
Looks like I'll be gaining 10 lbs if you add in the holidays.
I was looking in my book, 1,000 Mexican Recipes to se what caught
my interest, when I found myself looking over a Basic Chicken Stock
recipe. The descriptive intro paragraph says:
"This stock is a terrific base for soups or stews, and the
cooked chicken meat is shredded to use for enchiladas, tacos, tortas,
soups and in many other ways. I sometimes enhance my stock by adding
a 14-ounce can of fat-free reduced sodium chicken broth for a more
pronounced flavor."
...
Say what? Add a can of broth to homemade stock? Not sure I follow
that.

MORSE CODE! Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Right. Got it!
You may remember that I got an ipod shuffle for my birthday. I am
still making a concerted effort to bring it into my life because
I simply can't remember that I own it.
The other day, it wouldn't play anymore songs and I assumed the
battery needed charging, as the status light was blinking green.
While I was online charging it (for the first time), I thought to
myself, "What the hell is up with this battery, How do I REALLY
use this thing, Where do I tell what kind of charge is left on it,
What is the deal?"
[because
you know, it didn't come with any instructions...]
I found the colored blinking light decoder ring! Huzzah! An alternating
blinkity blink blink mean orange 50% and green 9 times for 10 seconds.
If its 3 blinking green lights followed by 1 light at 30%, then
the thing and stuff reset. A orange and green 2 second alernating
means there's no music loaded. Ya dig?
Seriuosly, though, I only poke fun at Apple because they are so
snobby. That's all.

Tuesday,
November 6

This is the front and back of Chimes
ginger-peppermint chews that we bought at the asian market. Awesome
packaging and tasty too! On the back, I love the "Chimes is
ALWAYS...". If you look at the product page, you'll see they
sell 3 flavors: Original, Peppermint, Peanut Butter.

Monday
November 5
I quit my job last friday. It was one of those things that wasn't
planned for last friday, and yet it had been brewing for a while
(just wasn't sure when I would have the courage to take the leap.)
I'm going to take a break from full-time employment and do a lot
of painting and some relaxing. I don't know how long this break
will last -- maybe a month, maybe until January.
For now, I am just grateful to have today off. I have the whole
day off! I think I have tomorrow off too!!!! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am grateful for my husband who encouraged me to take this break.
I am grateful to be alive in the year 2007, to be able to save money,
and to live in a country where I can do something as selfish as
paint all day. And to know that I can pick up a new job at any time.....whenever
I'm ready.
All is very well.

Wednesday
November 1

This is a scary decoration we bought a few years ago. Its a plastic
head shape with a loose drapery over it. Nothing unusual here, until
I discovered something the other day as I was repositioning it/her/him/thing/it.
OH MY GOODNESS!!!! I'm
so embarassed. An unexpected full set of bosoms!
~blush~

Don't miss these months
