NOVEMBER 2004
Saturday,
November 27::::::::::

+Friday morning, I was bored, hungry and staring
down the 2 ripe bananas on the counter. First I was going to make
banana pancakes then i was going to make banana muffins...as I
flipped through my cookbook. Then, I thought it wasn't worth the
hassle. I should just make some oatmeal. Then, I thought, "Hey,
why don't I slice some banana on top of my oatmeal."
Then I thought, "Hey, why don't I heat all of my oatmeal toppings
together." And before I knew what was happening, I had a hot
pan of butter, brown sugar, pecans and my banana.
It was heaven on earth.

November 24::::::::::
+Our heater hasn't worked since we bought it,
along with the new a/c, sometime last spring. And now that we need
it, our guy is coming today with the new part. When the house is
cold, all I want to do is be in bed where I can be warm. If the
heater can't be fixed tonight then I may not get up tomorrow and
Snail may have to deliver my thanksgiving meal to my nightstand.
+Every Christmas season, I like to make at least
one item for gifts. Last year I did some hanging sequined felt
trees. I believe i'm going to make bundled notecards this year.
i have no theme, as of yet, but I've been imagining this for a
while. Mainly, I've been imagining the ribbon i'll tie them up
with and the tag I'll attach. I'd like to do sets of 12 with half
as thank you and half as multi-occasion. Thinking of the butter
ones from PaperSource. Need to run some math on this and see
what its all going to cost me -- Michaels may have some notecard
sets for cheaper but the colors won't be as cute.
+Snail came home today with a new cd. It sounds
like our three-year old is in the kitchen digging through the pots
and pans. (but we don't have a three-year old).
+It's SOOO wonderful to have 4 days off with no
where to go.
Tuesday,
November 22::::::::::

We made a trip to the store tonight for Thanksgiving food items.
The store was nice and empty. Snail is all set for cooking his
Rib Roast (which will be the main feature, with some sliced ham
and sliced turkey as side fare). Along with the meat will be the
usual side dishes and some pumpkin pie for dessert. I look forward
to an easy going day of rest and eating.
I keep thinking I can switch my brain over to holiday mode as soon
as I wrap up the last ends of the wedding stuff. That may be unrealistic.
While I DID complete my thank you cards this past weekend, there
seems to be other odds and ends at large and meanwhile the clock
is ticking. eek. eek. eek.

place.
Wednesday,
November 17::::::::::Don't Hate Me
Very nice to be back home. It seems 12 days is a good amount of
time to be away, because I am happy to be back to my own food and
bed. I couldn't be happier to be doing laundry right now.
That said, Hawaii was as amazing as you would expect. Singing monkeys,
flying bananas and dancing pineapples everywhere.
Seriously, though....what can you say about Hawaii?
Highlights: beachside 3-course breakfast, 2-hour
doorless helicopter ride over Na Pali coast on Kauai (was that
2 or 300 waterfalls we just saw?), snorkeling, hiking through rainforests,
standing 30 feet from an active lava flow under a starry sky, frozen
mai tais, rainbow shave ice with mac nut ice cream (regret we didn't
get a picture of those), poke,
the japanese couple at the noodle shop, roosters on the beach,
the most perfect rainbow you've ever seen, swimming with a sea
turtle.... I'll stop there.
Thanks, husband, for showing me a good time in Hawaii..
Wednesday,
November 3::::::::::Vacation
I stopped at the bookstore tonight on my way home from work. Had
to pick up some reading material for the 25 hour plane ride to
Hawaii. I was chatting with the lady at the info desk and made
a comment to them that went something like, "Blah BLAH blah,
my husband, blah blah blah." I was aware that i was about
to say 'husband' before I said it but I was half expecting her
to start pointing and laughing at me and for me to come to my own
defense by saying, "I have a ring and everything, seeeeeee!"
It's not like i've NEVER said it, but I'm certainly making an effort
to get used to it. Snail thinks its funny to make me say 'wife'
over and over.
Speaking of wife, I guess its time to over see the procedure that
is 'packing.' We have plenty of time to get ready since our flight
isn't until early afternoon, so it shouldn't be any trouble to
throw some stuff into our bags. I made a point, to my husband,
that I didn't fancy getting up at the crack to embark on something
enjoyable....when you're an adult, you get to make those kinds
of decisions. We'll have a nice leisurely morning to start the
first day of vacation. I'm going to make some oatmeal for myself
for breakfast.
Monday, November 1:::::::::::
I want to like
a television show. Something that lasts an hour, if possible. A
drama of some sort, perhaps. One show that isn't animated (family
guy, simpsons or king of the hill) or involves food. Please.
Our
CSI phase has come and gone. The NY one is too dark and the Miami
one has a clown for the lead role. The thursday one is still ok,
but the content is by nature a bit heavy.
I was mildly excited (more wishful thinking than anything) about
Desperate Housewives.. I like the cheesy plastic look of it and
everything but i hate that voice over. (the dead lady). What, I
can't figure out anything for myself...she has to spell it out
for me? Speaking of spelling it out, {about
to offend scores of women} I felt the same about Sex in
the City. I really really tried to like that show. But, to me it
was just one hair better than Ally McBeal...another
whining-out-loud single chick over-analyzing everything. Plus,
I never liked any of the characters. And that's not to say that
there isn't some funny stuff here. I'm only saying that it doesn't
stick for me.
(<--I wish I'd had to look harder to find that expression. that
sums it up! ha)
And then there's LOST, while i'm at it. A fresh premise. Slightly
different from everything else on tv. I've watched it a few times.
But, again, trying too hard to be mysterious and fascinating.
I've thought of renting some series'ses's that I haven't seen before
like Six Feet Under or Dead Like Me...but then I feel bad paying
for those when I'm already paying so much for cable. Which brings
me back to watching FoodTV all the time. Sigh.
