ARCHIVE: SEPTEMBER 2009

Saturday, september 19

About 3 times a year, we make pancakes. Lately, I have been using this swedish pancake mix but last saturday morning we were plumb out! I had no choice but to make some from scratch.

The thing about swedish pancakes is that they are eggy and thin, which is why I like them. The scratch ones were even THINNER. So much that it was like pouring water onto the pan and it ran everywhere leaving no semblance of a pancake shape.... which turned into scramble pancakes. Pictured below.

You're supposed to have a flat skillet with a thin spatula tool which allows you to get up under them properly - much like crepes. But, I would argue, a special pan that you're going to use 3 times a year isn't worth buying or storing.

This Birthday Swedish Pancake recipes suggests that you pile them up like layers on a cake with thing layers of jam in between.... sounds like a great idea.

I can't stop looking at Etsy, now that I can lay in bed and do it with my new laptop. There's sooo much there and you never know, as you're digging through the rubble, when you're going to find something great. I realize this is akin to thrift shopping but those places always make me sneeze.

Here's some of my latest delights and fascinations.

1. Miniatures. Just orderd this Salmon Board made by PetitPlat. Her work is amazing.

2. Handmade washcloths. Curious what these would be like to use. Seems nice.

3. It's been a life long quest to have a distinct keychain. Lately, I am thinking something like a leather one with my initials. If you're on Etsy looking for keychains, keep in mind they are often called "Key Fobs."

4. Enamel Woodpecker Necklace.

5. Oilcloth makeup bags.

6. Child's purse by KrookedLethrbyPapa - with perhaps the best store name.

This is my parking pass, for the gargage I park in everyday while I'm at work.

First, I had it attached only to Kogepan but always felt like it wasn't quite complete. And when I was in Little Tokyo in Los Angeles, we went in this Japanese bookstore where I found the little zippered embroidered card container.

The result is that whenever I reach for my parking pass, I feel happy.

sATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12: raining!

The joy of owning a new laptop seems to be endless. At this moment, I am in bed, researching mattress buying on consumer reports, while Adam is on his laptop booking a cabin for our trip. Just the other night, I was in bed watching episodes of Battlestar Gallactica. On a recent morning, I bought an audiobook on iTunes which has restured the fun of having an ipod shuffle.

In a moment, I am going to watch a video about eyebrow threading. As you can see, the uses of a new laptop are many and varied!

THURSDAY, September 10

Fall trip planning is underway. Better late than never... that's our motto.

While searching for cabins in the northern Colorado area, fate brought us to The Prowler. If that's not an autumn love shack, then I don't know what is.

Sunday, September 6

The technologies are sinking into the backdrop, as all systems return to normal. Let us never speak of this again. I was truly embarassed by the indecent appearance of Sleepypie.

I tried on this cape yesterday at Anthropologie and it is amazing. One of the most fun things about fashion and shopping is trying on new shapes. It's the quickest way to feel like a new person. This one has some wool in it, which I can't wear... sad. It's beautiful.

The laptop is here. Software is needed. Prospects are good. Laptop set-up completion is near.

I am dreaming of new jewelry from Lauren Haupt - there's always something on her site that I am liking. Good stuff.

This weekend are are going to: shop for a new couch, shop for a new mattress, go to the cactus show, buy ingredients for a fig dish, attend a neighborhood party, paint some, take down the fan in my room and install a new light, go walking... sigh. I'm already tired.

August - right here.
