I had great plans to post pictures today, but the camera refuses to give
up the files. Instead, I give you this snowman. This snowman is part of
a grid for a calendar that I am working on. This is a portion of the illustration
for January-February-March. Unfortunately I don't have time this year
to do 12 illustrations; so i'm doing 4.
> Do you know Blythe? Cause
if you don't, you should.
> If i ever own a shop (and I have no plans to) I am going to post
two big ol' signs on the door. One sign will clearly state whether I am
open or closed at that moment, so that someone driving by will know whether
to pull in or not. The other sign will clearly and largely state my store
hours, so that if someone pulls up in their car while i'm closed, they
can see the store house without having to get out of the car. I'm a genius.

I have three words for you. Cat. Butt. Magnets. I'll say no more. Buy
Now. This is such a priceless find. By the way, what's the little
brown thing up on the letter 'B' at the top? I really can't believe that
these are real.
> I don't decorate for Halloween other than buying a pumpkin, but i'm
seeing some nice decorations out there. The Department
56 Halloween mini-site has some fun items--not to mention their super
well-designed site. I was reminded of them in the new Living. And then
there's these cute felt
pumpkin 'stickers.' I am making these for sure.

Hello. I painted a robot.
> The beading fever is fading. I mean, i could easily get inspired
by buying new beads, but do i have to buy new beads to get inspired? I
probably just need an old-fashioned trip to the mall to see what the latest
is.

With cool weather comes the desire to bake and eat. There's
a great looking recipe in the new Cooking Light for a Macademia Butter
Cookie with Cranberries. I will be making that very soon. Anything with
cranberries is good with me.
> Maira
Kalman is an illustrator who has worked on some children's books.
Her work is very loose and adult-looking but with an element of silliness
to it. I tried to find a better way to link to her work, than amazon,
but no such luck. I just learned that she has a new
book out that tells the story of an old new york fireboat, the John
J. Harvey, and its involvement with 9/11.

My cold is lingering. I'm ready for it to go away.
> Yesterday was the first perfect cool sunny fall day. I love
to sit in the sun when its just a tad crisp out. Fall makes me homesick.
Fall also reminds me of being in college, where lots of perfect days were
spent just being outside and doing whatever.
> I know this page doesnt' work on the Mac. I'm trying to fix it, but
i don't have a mac to test on at home.

I am haunted by batteries.:
---We
use 'rechargeable batteries'
---Target doesn't sell them; the grocery store doesn't; etc. These are
the places that we visit the most and try to pick up more.
--- Best Buy is the only place that sells them. (insert conspiracy theory
here)
--- Batteries lay around the house and I never know which are new or used.
I came across a solution at the container store. They sell these clear
containers with special compartments already labeled new and used!
---I finally made a special trip to BEST BUY to purchase more rechargeable
batteries. When I got home, I immediately put them in the clocks that
i had stolen batteries from for my remote. A half hour or so later i noticed
that the time on this one particular clock had not changed. I looked on
the back of the battery package and read, "CHARGE BEFORE USE".
Sigh. I mean, these batteries cost about $12/$14 a pack. You would think
that they come charged.

>I
am feeling a little better. Yesterday, I became one with the bed--I was
too sick to bead (gasp!). Today, I am getting back to normal.
> The leaves are starting to fall. We have many trees in our yard and
soon we will spend our saturdays placing the multitude of leaves into
bags and removing the bags from our property. Life is a series of moving
stuff around. Moving dirty clothes into the washing machine, moving clean
dishes out of the dishwasher and into the cabinet, moving my socks off
the floor and into the dirty clothes basket, moving my car from our driveway
to the parking garage at work, moving food into my mouth, moving my body
out of bed and into the shower, moving my toothbrush across my teeth,
moving my summer clothes into boxes and moving those boxes into the closet.
Moving and more moving.
> I don't know where the summer went. It was remarkably mild this summer
and for texas, that's saying something. Is it lame to talk about weather
on a blog? Anyway, I'm not ready for it to be over. Luckily some diluted
summer weather will sort of drag on for a little while longer.

In other news, I'm sick. My head is all full of stuff and I feel exhausted.
I just barely have the energies to sit in this hard chair, with my chapped
lips and aching head, and type. The line between allergies and colds and
sinus infections are vague and indiscernible. Who knows what I have or
how long i'll have it..
> Every so often I eat one of those meals that I can't stop thinking
about. I never know when or where that meal will take place. Today it
was lunch on a rainy day at Serrano's. A hot plate of chicken enchiladas
with verde sauce, rice, barracho beans and a tall crispy glass of Dr.
Pepper. Boy, was it ever good. I can still taste it. Of course, since
my sense of smell is completely gone, technically, i could only barely
taste it. I think that that meal was part of my destiny; part of the universe.
I don't think my boyfriend and his mom enjoyed their meals as much as
I did. My boyfriend and I even shared the same plate. Somehow for me,
that food was meant to be.
> I did some beading. I'm never too sick or too tired to make bracelets
and necklaces. Sometimes I DO realize that I'm too tired to bead when
I make something and then drop one end of the wire and watch my whole
necklace bounce around on the carpet. Each individual bead is like the
most perfect and tiny peice of delicious candy. The sort of beads that
I like are glass and colorful. It's so fun to be able to string those
candies right up and wear them around my neck.

About 3 times a year I get this hard-to-describe shivering feeling under
my tongue. It comes in a series of waves and then goes away.
> Speaking of shivering, movie night was last night. We watched NIGHTMARE
ON ELM STREET and THE LOST BOYS. I had never seen ELM st and I couldn't
believe how violent and horrible it was. I mean, I KNOW its a horrror
film and all but I guess when you're older its more terrible than when
you're young and watching stuff like that. It was fun to watch with a
group of people and I didn't have any bad dreams that night.

I work with a girl who is from Korea. She moved here 6 years ago. She
was telling a story today about a friend of hers that recently came to
visit. My friend noticed that her friend had never taken up the shaving
of the legs and commented on how she should really do so. She continued
to say how her friend had 'weak' skin. (? I questioned her). She said,
"Well, like people say that I have snake skin. Thick and smooth.
My friend has weak skin; mushy; chicken skin. ...of course, there's nothing
WRONG with chicken skin, you know." Of course not. Who wouldn't want
chicken skin over snake skin?
> Came home from work to a super dinner. Sauteed Lobster Mushrooms
over Blue Fin Tuna with a side of Balsamic Spinach Salad. The lobster
mushrooms have an orange-ish outside color.

I took some fun pictures of my neice yesterday. In case you can't tell
from the shot -- yes, that IS silver glitter toenail polish. Ain't it
great to be a 5 year old princess?
> I went to see THE GOOD GIRL tonight. I got in free because I cashed
in on some free movie passes that i had gotten for my birthday. I was
looking forward to a nice crispy soda during my movie viewing. I was pretty
stunned to see that the price of a nice crispy soda during a movie viewing
is $3.50. That's three dollars and fifty cents. A small popcorn is three
dollars and fifty cents also. This probably is a shock to no one but me.
Maybe its just been too long since I got a nice crispy soda at the theater.
Oh well.
> My last hope for some inspiring fabric to be used on various sewing
projects has been sunk. With a name like "Fanny's", how could
this local fabric store be anything but cool? Well, it IS a nice store,
but mostly upholstery type of fabric for grown-ups and not really what
I was looking for. The search continues!

The secret to painting is: Painting. You gotta keep doing it. I'm excited
about this peice, but I think I may try it again. While I like the colors
and the composition, I still don't think that it came together as well
as it could have. Its mostly colored pencil and acrylic. The color looks
off on my scan...i can do some color correcting, but wish that I could
do a little more.

> Homemade pizza cooked on the grill. Mmm..crusty. I made this recipe
about 4 years ago and decided it was time, once again. Its just too hot
to heat up the oven during the summer.
> I've been painting. I should have something to show soon. I've been
a little more risk-taking lately and so my failure rate is a bit higher.
Its all good.
Sunday Afternoon: September 1, 2002
> This is me and my outfit when I found the clock last weekend.
> Tried to find some fabric for a few projects at the local average
fabric store. Its just a sad scene in there. There's nothing exciting,
or fresh or hip in there. I left empty-handed. I also looked at purse
patterns and was surprised to see that the price of a pattern is a whooping
$15.00.
