Hello Mr. Grasshopper!

Monday was my 36th birthday. I couldn't quite decide what to do with myself and Adam reminded me that I like massages. I made an appointment at The Crossings, and had myself a sunny day. As much as the treatment, I loved being up on that hill and enjoying the pool. There was nobody there! It was amazing. And yes, that's the new nerdy book I'm reading. I have finally gotten over the loss of the Rossamund books, and faced the fact that I have to move along. I have to have a rebound book right? I mean, I can't keep dwelling on old book flames. Sigh.
When I got home, Adam's relatives came over and we cooked up a HELL of a good meal. There was lamb, beef steak and shrimp (some wrapped in bacon). We melted some garlic butter to dip the shrimp too. Adam's aunt and uncle have a huge garden and brought down a bounty of vegetables, namely okra which we fried up that night. I ate a lot of fried okra growing up and haven't had it in YEARS. It might have been the highlight of the evening. Tiramisu was served for dessert and we played a round of chicken foot (money involved) for entertainment.
Adam got me a huge bouquet of flowers, full of some strange ones -- and I am all into some freaky weird acts of nature. (below)

Tomorrow, I am off to Virginia for a few days. See you in August!
Thursday July 24

I buy Chimes at the Korean market when I see it, but I hadn't seen them in a while until Adam found this cute tin in the checkout line. It's the greatest tin ever.
Evidently, this is 'blog a picture that I took' month.

Thursday July 17
The Time Paradox comes out today and I can't wait to read it! This is book six in the Artemis Fowl series. Artemis Fowl is like Harry Potter, but more sci-fi and less wizard juices. Good stuff.
Wednesday July 16

This might be one of the best photos I've ever taken (above). This is my tiny plant in the tiny cactus pot that I made in ceramics class! I'm living the dream!

As cute as it may be, I sort of feel sorry for it - there's absolutely no room for growing.
Monday July 14
Last night after our vermicelli noodle bowls, I had a mad hankering for a bubble tea - which I haven't had in ages and ages. We walked 2 doors down and I ordered a Jasmine Green Tea with Pearl - alas it was strong and sugary. Whew! I don't want to know what that thing would have done to me had I consumed the whole thing. I dumped out most of it and ate the pearl and then i thought, "I need to just make this stuff myself at home." AND I'M GOING TO!
Back to the point of this post - they have ice cream at this place too and Adam insisted we try the Durian ice cream. He took it like a man and said it wasn't that bad. I thought it tasted like gasoline at first blush and didn't really want to contemplate the flavors any further.
Friday July 11

If you see some big hollow noodles at the store, and you say to your wife, "COOL! BIG NOODLES" and then you want to buy them -- don't.
Creepy.

(from our cactus garden) I love the edges of this succulent that are frayed and look like fabric.
I started using the Neti Pot about a week ago and thought I would share my observations in case you bought one but haven't bothered to try it yet or were thinking about buying one but putting it off (as I did for many years). While the sensation of water pouring through your sinuses is a new one, I found all of the thoughts in my mind and hype around it to be comfortingly disappointing. Its doesn't take long to add this as an extra step in your morning or evening routine and I think the benefits are worthwhile.
My only advice is to keep tweaking the salt/water combo to get it right. When I first got started, I was eyeballing the amounts and was having some burning. Once I measured the amounts, it was much more comfortable. As for its benefits - I would guess that I feel about 25% better. I am doing it morning and night and sometimes in the afternoon if I feel like my nose is getting itchy and annoyed. I have experienced a few nights where I can go to sleep reading a book, without my hand anywhere near my face - quite a feat.
The past few months have been extra super spectacularly bad for allergies for me. Though, I probably would say that's the case more often than not. I am not taking any medications right now - I am at that point where they have no effect. I find if i take a break from them, that they work a little better when I start up again. Anyway, the Neti is offering enough relief right now that I plan to continue for a long time.
Get yourself hyped up by watching the Himalayan Institute demo.
Tuesday July 1

Friday evening, we made thse yummy appetizers. It is a tomato sandwich with fresh mozzarella in between. We breaded them in egg and panko breadcrumbs. They were sensational. Don't forget that basil.

Meet my tiny plant collection. On the left is one of my first coil pots that I made in class (made to have a plant in it - haven't gotten to that yet). In the middle is a glass hinged box that I bought at Anthropologie. The plant in it was given to me by these cuckoo artsy people out in a small town that a friend and I met -- long story. It has actually grown quite a bit! On the end is a tiny terrarium that I just made on Sunday in a little glass ball with three legs and a small round hole in the top. I put Elfin Thyme in it. If it doesn't live, I'll try again.
