this just
in: Woman in Texas Gets Her First Ipod!
Today I got an iPod shuffle for my birthday from my workmates. I
suspect they had the idea when they saw me toting around my cds...
guess they felt sorry for me. YAY for that!!!!!!
I was talking to the girl at work about my new shuffle and she's
10 years younger than me. She was giving me the scoop since she
has 3 ipods, 2 nanos and 6 shuffles. And she was like, and you can
listen to it in your car!!!!! and i was like, HOW? and she was like,
you buy one of those tape player things and plug it in! and i'm
like, WHO STILL HAS A TAPE PLAYER IN THEIR CAR AND WHO IS CALLING
WHO 'techologically out of date'?
LOL.
One day, it will allllll come together. I know it will. I'll be
able to have my music, movies and everything all in one place and
there will be no plugs or wires. I JUST KNOW IT!

I have
been thinking about these Volckamer
Citrus Prints for a year. I bookmarked them on the computer,
then we put the computer in storage and built a house and yadda
yada yada, here I am a year later with my long lost bookmark! And,
naturally, they are now all sold out. At least now that I have the
name of them, I can do some research.
In a similar vein, you gotta love these
prints, by wondercabinet. Thanks to design*sponge.

My Name Is
Sleepypie And I Like to Read Books That Have Illustrated Maps Of
Made-Up Places.
(above: picture of map from Sword of Shannara)
I am
taking a trip in a couple of weeks and I started my usual thought
that I have a couple weeks before any trip and that is, "What
am I going to read on the airplane?"
But, THIS time, I quickly answered my own question by remembering
that I have been steadily reading books for the last 4/5ish months!
I already have a book to bring with me!
I am slowly adjusting to the idea that I love to read fantasy. This
is my true confession. I like to read books that have dwarves, elves,
(though I don't love elves that much) dragons, sword fighting, magic
gemstones, and traveling across distant lands that have deadly bogs
and fierce animals (that sometimes talk). I learned this about myself
when I started reading Harry Potter and started watching LOTR and
started rewatching LOTR (thought I'm not rereading Harry Potter).

(above: picture of map from Bryan Jacques' Redwall
Series -- [books about mice... living... in a city named redwall..who
are foodies at heart with their strawberry cordial, october ale,
young onion flan and candied chestnuts.... who have badger and bird
friends... .. who get into trouble with rats, foxes, and otters......
and stuff..] )
I have a stigma about what I read. Whenever I go look at books,
there is invariably at 14 year old boy in the same aisle looking
with me. I already tried to be a regular 35ish year old that reads
books, like the ones by Barbara Kingsolver, David Sedaris, Nick
Hornsby, Dave Eggers or whoever. I read those books on previous
plane trips. They are ok, but they don't make me want to keep reading.
Reading is something that I've wanted to be into, and I have loved
the idea of and I'm pretty happy to be enjoying it so much. That
said, I am not willing to sign up for a book discount club card
and I'm not really ready to call myself an avid reader. And I don't
want a bookshelf full of books that I "need to get to."
For now, I am going to take it nice and steady, chose each book
very carefully and hope that I can continue to love reading for
a little while longer.

If I
listen to music on my way to and from work and most of the day at
work, that's a LOT of hours and I can't seem to buy enough new music
to keep myself entertained and interested. Even when you add in
some silence, some coworker interaction and a phone call, that's
STILL hours and hours and hours.
I've exhausted the iTunes reggae radio stations that I like and
I have occasionally tuned into Wine
and Dine radio (in itunes talk radio category), which I DO enjoy,
even though I already have my 1 bottle of white wine that I like
(no thanks to them).
I recently tried LAST.FM and have
found some new music that I like - truly its a great concept. Sometimes
it works but sometimes it doesn't and I'm never willing to spend
much time tinkering with logging onto or customizing web applications
(sharing my music lists with 'friends', creating a profile.. yadda
yadda). That said, I fire it up here and there and will continue
to do so.
A couple weeks ago, I turned to iTunes podcasts. Passing by NPR/PBS,
Mugglecast and Joel Osteen, I have found Learn
Spanish with Coffe Break Spanish! OLÉ! Today, I completed Lesson
7 which teaches you how to talk about your job. Each lesson is 15
minutes long. It would be more effective if I was able to try pronouncing
the words along with the lessons, but, I already tried that and
my coworkers were none too excited..... And, I can only half way
concentrate on learning a language while simultaneously doing my
job... BUT, I like it and I'm sure at least some parts of it are
sinking in. I have listened to each of the lessons at least once,
some as much as 3/4 times which makes up for my limited concentration.
I'm pretty anxious to get to the ordering food part so that I can
try it out at the local taqueria. El pastor, verde, something! Check
it out!

I've
been looking at fabric lately for upholstery and curtains (maybe)
and possibilities. I had no idea that there were such cute fabrics
at ReproDepot that I have no use for, like these animal
prints. If you have kids and time, check these out. Three
little pigs! Hedgehogs!
One of these could be cool for my room. Maybe. Obviously, I know
what I'm looking for (LOL).

I
have always been a cheap date - but, believe me that I invented
a great snack tonight!
You need 1 chilled bowl, 1 banana, grape nuts, soy milk (or milk
of your choice) and chocolate chips. From reading the list of ingredients
you can probably figure out how to put that together.....Its mainly
some sliced banana in your chilled bowl, a light sprinkling of grape
nuts for crunch, a few chocolate chips and enough milk to make it
work for you (for me, only a little, for my husband, enough to fill
your bowl to the rim).
It's dessert cereal! Mmmmmm.
Tuesday,
June 26
I haven't painted in about 2/3 months - I've lost track. I have
my new Heywood-Wakefield desk that Adam bought me for my birthday
(July of last year) and I am pretty much set up to start painting.
Brushes are out. Table easel is up. There's still a ton of boxes
in my small studio and random items stacked around and strewn about.
I can't wait until everything is perfect. I have to dig in.
My goal tonight before I go to bed is to paint - just sit there
and start getting the feel for the new space. Sometimes when I think
about painting again, I feel kinda panicky and anxious like I won't
be able to paint fast enough. I think that has something to do with
NOT being able to paint very much at the apartment ( sooo cramped,
and no mental room and stress, etc. etc. )
From the time when I got my desk and I knew what my painting room
might look like and I starting envisioning a saturday. I have been
dreaming of that day when I am working at my desk, drinking an icy
dr. pepper, listening to late 70's reggae with Adam painting in
the other room. I can practically see myself sitting there, from
the doorway.
I think that day will be here soon. Sigh. What a relief.
