ARCHIVES: JUNE 2006

Thursday, June 29

I leave for a family beach trip tomorrow. In preparation for the trip, I decided that I should finally cross JAWS off my "Movies That I've Never Seen" list. I wasn't expecting very much considering that it's 30 years old and sometimes movies can't hold up that well to their reputation. I was pleasantly entertained and even startled out loud when that dead guy floated by in the sunken boat... as if i couldn't have seen that coming from a mile away.

We sold our house this past tuesday and move out in a few weeks. Many adventures lie ahead. Its still anyone's guess when the new house will be ready for us.

I introduced someone at work to Afro Ken and found this image on accident, in google images.

Every night before I go to sleep, I watch about 15/30minutes of television of the wretched programming that comes on between 10 and 11pm. Recently, I decided to use that time to make my way through Lord of the Rings. What a productive idea! I fast forward through the goopy elf scenes. Is anything more boring than Aragorn and Liv Tyler? I can't take it. Is it that there's no chemistry between those two, or maybe not enough story to back it up, i'm not sure. Bring on the swords and spiders, and rocky cliffs and flying death demons!

I won't be back until late (shudder) Wednesday night. Happy Fourth of July! Don't play with fireworks.

Sunday, June 25

Yesterday felt like vacation! I can't remember the last time I had a whole day to do whatever! (it was probably back in April, when we first decided that we would move.) I didn't have to pack any boxes! I didn't have to paint any walls! I didn't get kicked out so that realtors could show the house! I didn't have a baby shower to go to! I didn't have to go to work! Yabba. Dabba. Do.

We had 2 offers on our house back out, resulting in a roller coaster-like feeling of "Sold," "Not Sold," repeat. It's the closest its ever been to being sold this time around. The option period ends Tuesday, i believe. It ain't over until its over, however.

Anyway, back to yesterday. I slept in until 10am. I didn't take a shower. I made scrambled eggs and hashbrowns for breakfast. I painted (finally) while I watched Pirates of the Carribean, Batman Returns and LOTR: Part 1. And I made popcorn and had a Dr. Pepper.

What is it about summer that makes me want to watch movies?

Wednesday, June 21

++What a treat last night. Do you want to know what a treat is? An avocado sandwich for dinner. A crispy Dr. Pepper. Laying in bed, watching Can't Buy Me Love (the 80's movie that got by me somehow). It was relaxing.

++A month ago, my dad and stepmom mailed me a package of art gems from the past (high school and earlier). A portion of that package were the bookcovers that I used to draw. I couldn't wait to cover my books each year so that I could doodle all over them. Here's one from Trigonometry: 1989.

If you're paying attention you'll read a few Prince lyrics and some Latin.

Sunday, June 11

++I own one pair of black flip flops that I bought about 2 summers ago. They are embarrassing and I have been meaning to replace them, but just couldn't find anything that seemed suitable and kept forgetting to look in the first place. That all came to an end this morning when my husband and I hit Old Navy for our semi-annual shopping spree. They have flip flops galore.. striped ones, flat ones, shiny ones.. all colors of the cheap rainbow. I came away with a black pair and a white pair (with a colored plaid ribbon across the straps.)

++Went to another baby shower saturday. The food was on the money and I sure had my share of bacon tea sandwiches. (By the way, aren't tea sandwiches supposed to be filled with things like cucumber and cream cheese?) I was happy that we only played one game and that nobody's gift included that butt paste... cause as few shower's as i've been to, that joke is less and less funny but always causes the whole room to bust out laughing.

++In the 11 year relationship with my husband, i can probably count the number of matinees we've been to. The last one may have been eXistenZ (1999) and I remember saying that a matinee is a bad idea cause you end up thinking about the movie for the rest of the day. (if you know that film, then you know that's an eXtreMe example... ugh) Also, its considered a waste of time for 2 people that spend weekends painting, not going to the movies.

Today was a special day for a matinee because we had 2 free movie passes and we had to be out of the house for realtors. (Yes, our house is back on the market... long story). We went to see XMEN:3 and had a fun time of it. I was thrilled to see the Iranian lady from last year's "24." SHE should have been the queen in the NARNIA movie!!!

Tuesday, June 6

++These are some busy days, indeed.

After getting our house show-room immaculate to put on the market, it sold in a few short days. We accepted an offer last night over some greasy bolgogi at a japanese restaurant. (We may have celebrated with some alcohol and tempura but the fat lady doesn't sing until the 10-day option period is over). If there's one thing I can't/shouldn't eat, its greasy food. Sometimes you simply order the wrong thing and there's no turning back except to eat your husband's food and console yourself with the thought that there WILL be more meals to eat the next day.

The other thing to note about selling a house (particularly when you don't have pets or kids) is how clean your house can be, without too much difficulty.. beds can be made and trash cans emptied and dishes done... well, granted you have to eat out all the time. Anyway, my point being is that if you've always dreamed of living in a perfectly clean home, I am here to report that it does nothing but make you feel bored. I mean, what could there possibly be to do if the house is clean and all your shows are done for the season? Nothing.

++That brings me to season finales and a discussion about 24 and Deperate Housewives. With Jack, I can say that I think we all stressed enough ALL SEASON LONG. Can't we just leave the season with an image of Jack and Audrey kissing and a sunset? Is it totally necessary to see him being tortured by the Chinese? And along those same lines is the Desperate Housewives season finale ending with someone getting hit by a car, another person being shot, and other smaller bad things. It's a bit of a downer. I heard the Office had a cute season ending, but our DVR decided not to record it.

++We watched NARNIA finally, on Sunday night and I totally enjoyed the first half and then somewhere in the second half things started looking cheap. And I think they should have done more with the Queen's wardrobe and makeup.. Not enough going on there. Too much 'elf-waif' not enough 'scary-bitch.'
