Wednesday | June 28

I had been trying and trying to get to the mall and I finally made it last night. Also, i was kind of in a bad mood when i went. For me, i have decided, this is a good time to go. Cause i feel all hell bent and determined and that results in purchases. If i go on a regular happy go-lucky night, then I don't care and I can't be bothered and I leave with nothing. This is ok too, except i don't have a lot of time to wander around malls for hours on end without making purchases.

I was also pleased with myself cause I bought a cute top and had the idea to go immediately into CLAIRE's to buy a matching headband.....It is incredibly rare for me to have that much thought. I did NOT have enough thought to buy a long enough tank top to wear under that top so that it would be work appropriate. There's way too many dials to dial in on the fashion front. WAYYY too many dials.

-------

The other thing that's aggravating is my car stereo. I have 2 harry potter books on cd that someone burned for me. I immediately thought COOL BEANS, i can tear through these on my drive home. Well, not so fast super britches.....You see, each book is an entire 11-hour MP3 file...and my stereo hath not the ability to fast forward in hour-long chunks.

SO, what happens when i'm 8 hours in and i decide i want to hear a cd? Huh? What happens then when i put that cd back in and can't FF to 8 hours into it where I left off?? What happens is that I listen to the Goblets of Fire at work. How far do I get before my mind wanders, or i have to read something or someone interrupts me and I forget to pause? not very far. By the time i get to the end i'll probably have heard it 6 times, when you count all the times where i have to catch up. Such is life.

I know there's MP3 players that you can pause. And this all brings me around to my utter annoyance and aggravation with our cds. Our cds make me crazy beyond crazy. Which is why i never listen to cds. Which is why i resort to being excited about books on tape. Which is why my brain is fried from all the crap I hear on the radio. Sure, we tried the iPOD and returned it when the iTrip failed to perform. Maybe one day it will all come together for me. I mean, don't think i don't appreciate being able to get rid of vhs tapes and vcrs. I AM, believe me. I just need this one other thing and it will really all be quite technologically good. The end.

Sunday | June 26 couldn't post this the other night

Who in their right mind can iron a pair of cargo pants? They're all bunchy and buttony and gathery and pocket-flappy. I give up.

We had old style movie night with friends last night. The movie was ANGUISH from the 80's and starred the unnerving lady from Poltergiest-- the short one. The movie was about her son cutting out people's eyeballs. That's a good strategy for a horror film I think. There were also snails and a pigeon named Tommy.

Sunday nights we usually cook dinner, have Snail's mom over and watch the Simpsons. Tonight, instead, we went to a new mexican place and it happened that i ordered the best thing on the menu. Pork in a flavorful green sauce. So heavenly with those homemade corn tortillas that were sweet and had the slightest crispness on the edges. After dinner, we hit our ever-evolving Target.....it was an evening summer dreams are made of. If we had followed that up with seeing a movie, my head would have exploded.

Thursday | June 23

How on earth can tortilla chips and potato chips be nutritionally equally bad for you? Don't tortilla chips SEEEEEM healthier? If i had a potato chip for every tortilla chip i've had, then that would seem fair. But tortilla chips aren't even HALF as good as potato chips.

Anyway, we just polished off a bag of TERRA yukon gold salt and pepper chips. But we didn't eat them plain, we ate each one with a scoop of plain sour cream. Those chips and that tub of sour cream go together like margaritas and friday nights.

Go eat some NOWWWW!

Monday | June 20

My friend brought over pictures of the winning King Kong cake. I believe they were both taken from inside her fridge. She also brought over a pan of chicken enchiladas, beans and rice as promised. Tonight, I am busy filling my belly with winnings.

Sunday | June 19
The movie-food going experience on Friday went great. I decided to grab lunch on the way there as to avoid eating in the dark. When the movie started, i ordered a dr pepper and some raisinets while the guy next to me had a deliciuos smelling pizza. As far as Batman goes, I liked it. I would like to see it again. There were some parts in the beginning that seemed kinda long, but I admit that I was overly anxious to get to the batman zipping around part. If you go see it, don't forget that's its called Batman BEGINS....a bit of a long complicated story around how he came to be. Nothing like the simplicity of how Spiderman came to be.

-- - -- *
I came across Glasstire yesterday, a compilation of Texas art events and news. We'll see if it holds the test of time.

Rachel Ray is going to be in town filming $40/day and we are going to go and see how fat her ass really IS once and for all. Maybe we'll make her sign some photos from her F H M spread! Anyway, she's going to be at the Alamo Drafthouse friday night, July 1. They are showing THE WILD BUNCH and serving a multi-course dinner for $30. I still haven't quite figured out how her show taping fits in. I guess it could be $2.00 donuts for breakfast, $3.00 for a drink and bean burrito at Taco bell and then $30 for dinner....I don't know.

Thursday | June 16

I've been wearing these for about 6 years, if i had to guess. They have taken me here and there in comfort and style. I remember the time I first laid eyes on them in a boutique downtown. I wasn't even looking for shoes that night. I loved them immediately and have been loving them ever since.

Snail started warning me about a month ago that it would soon be time to part ways. Last night was that time.

-----------------

I am going to see Batman tomorrow on a work team outing. I am bummed kinda for a couple of reasons:
1. I'm a picky S.O.B.
2. I wanted to see this movie with Snail
3. We are seeing it in the theater where you can eat AND watch the movie. I don't want to watch a movie that i'm excited about, with a stranger chewing potato skins in my ear and dropping ranch on my head. Its not right. And i don't like to eat in the dark. Plus, my luck, i'll end up next to some work goon that will be talking half the time. The person talking will be one of the people that voted NOT to see this film.

Its going to be a test of my thin patience and tolerance.

Good News! The King Kong cake placed first today at the Academy Awards Themed Cake contest at my friend, Laura's mom's work festival. Hurray! I can taste those sweet victory enchiladas now.

Wednesday | June 8

RRRaaaaaarrrrrhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

I made and painted a miniature King Kong and a miniature airplane (to be glued into his hand later). My friend Laura is coming over and bringing the corresponding skyscraper, and the cake that all of it goes on top of.

I don't mind doing favors but I sure as hell would like to know what this is all for. I know that it's going to Laura's mom's place of work for a contest of some sort.

If she wins, maybe she'll make me a big plate of (she's mexican) enchiladas....mmmm........

My weekend guests left monday morning. The visit was entirely enjoyable. In the course of their visit, we made 3 very different desserts:

1. My apple pie
Came out great, but the apples could have been cooked longer. I didn't take a picture, because it would have looked like every other pie i've made.

2. My Aunt Norma's Monkey Bread

We have renamed it 'Devil's Cake.' The recipe is 2 cans of Pillsbury crescent rolls, walnuts, gobs of butter and brown sugar. Layer all of that in a bundt pan and kill yourself.

3. Fancy coconut cake recipe that bunintheoven sent me
. (birthday cake for dad's 60th)
This recipe was a challenge, and I was curious if i could do it. The cake part was time-consuming, but easy enough. In between the layers went a coconut buttercream frosting (my first buttercream) and on the outside was a boiled icing (also a first). That icing ended up looking like marshmallow - it was shiny and plastic-like.

Was the pain-in-the-ass cake worth it? I guess it tasted good enough and I felt proud of my culinary accomplishment. Everyone else seemed to like it. Also, add to this that 10 minutes after my first bite, i came down with a stomach virus and had to excuse myself from the party.

In summary, I like an edible dessert that doesn't take too long to make.

Thursday | June 2

The lawn got mowed. The new caladiums are planted. The pool light didn't get fixed. I don't have a gift or card for my dad's birthday. I never got any dessert plates. We need to go to the grocery store. I need to decide what kind of cake to make. I believe i'm making an apple pie later today.

At noon, we're going to meet my dad and his wife at the airport and go grab lunch. I can't wait to see them, especially in Texas.

Monday | MAY 30

This holiday weekend has been a blur of errands, projects that involve the drill, and projects that involve dirt. All of this is for our own benefit as well as the benefit of my dad and his wife who will be visiting next week. Next weekend is my dad's 60th birthday. And no 60th birthday would be complete without that pot of magenta colored impatiens by the back patio door and those new curtains -- well, at least that's what I would like to think.

There's nothing like a date or event to motivate yourself into accomplishing those annoying tasks around the house. Frankly, i'm rather happy to just knock it all out in one long tiring weekend, rather than spread it out over a multitude of weekend. Its not as if we aren't seeing some major improvements around here.

Anyway, what I want to say is this: Sleepypie, good luck getting through the week.

help.
