ARCHIVE: THE PATHETIC APRIL 2009
Saturday April 18
I have been working the most insane hours of my life and today I am enjoying the simple quiet of a saturday. It's been a while since I have been home on a Saturday. On a normal Saturday, if I am not working, Adam and I will typically get up and go roam around town -- shopping, looking, having lunch and doing whatever strikes our fancy at the time. My appreciation for being home, starting some laundry, painting my toenails and changing the bed sheets has been renewed. Heck, I may even try to paint which is something I haven't done in months.
I can't leave without telling one story. I'll share my Anthropologie shopping trip with you.
When you work all the time, a funny thing can happen and you may end up wanting to spend some of that money you're making. It's a cycle - make money, spend money, repeat. And when you work on the WEEKEND, then you get into SPECIAL areas of spending money -- in a desperate effort to replenish the piece of soul that has been taken from you --- as in, time to indulge in something wonderful. And what's more wonderful than buying some clothes at Anthropologie when you are usually too cheap to pony up for it?
Last Saturday, Adam and I walked in right after they opened and I said, "Adam, what's my budget?" And he said, "There isn't one."
That's the correct answer.
Honestly, I wanted pants because it's nearly impossible to buy pants that aren't either black, khaki or capri cargo pants. I know because I have looked and looked. At Anthropologie you can get pants that are fashionable, but not too trendy. And what I discovered that day, is that a 'nice' pair of pants, actually truly fits better and will be worth the investment.
In the end, I got some pants, a cute spring sweater, and a couple of professional shirts for work. All items that I will get a lot of usage from (I can't shake my practical side completely.) More importantly, I did the Anthropologie shopping spree thing that was on my list of things to do before I die!!!! and it was fun!!!!!
Sunday April 5

We went to the Austin Rodeo recently with a goal of enjoying the weather and eating a funnel cake. It happens to be right behind our house, which made it super convenient.
If you aren't familiar with the rodeo, it can be broken down into a few fascinating components:
1. The Livestock show - Cows, pigs and some horses.
2. The Carnival - Rides and food, in it's own area.
3. The big barn where they have concerts and actual rodeo events. (Kelly Pickler, AKON and such)
4. The gift area (bean soup kits and belt buckles)
5. The area where kids and animal meet - a.k.a. petting zoo.
6. The food court - different than the carnival food section. Not to be confused.
BRING CASH if you ever go to the rodeo because it will hurt when you are out of cash for the night and you are short $6.00 for that funnel cake (plus $3.00 for your coke refill) and you have to pay $4.00 to take money out of the ATM.
Anyway, we ate roasted corn, a corn dog (Adam), a condensed cake-like shape of fresh (unbattered) curly fries, and we shared a funnel cake which was every bit as delicious as I remembered and worth every dime. They also had fried snickers, sausage, turkey legs, apple dumplings, fried foods on sticks, pizza on sticks and more!
March can be found here.
