Friday May 9

+ These ceramic lamps are sweet -- especially with the addition of a 'night light' within the base. Though I don't much care for the shades.

+ Don't you love this little bundle of moss-in-a-jar? I need some of that.

+ After listening to an episode about conventions on This American Life, in which the main subjects are at a Dark Shadows convention. I had to netflix it in a hurry and check out this mysterios soap opera from the late 60's with vampires!!!

As expected the disk arrived and days and days went by until we could sit down and finally watch it. I pop the disk and what happened next? Well, I had ordered a 'special edition' disk with behind the scenes footage and documentaries!!! Luckily there was one episode on there, in spanish. I watched that with English subtitles. Which I have to say -- Spanish-talking vampires? Pretty cool.

Dark Shadows is a short show. And there was only 1 episode. It was a stormy night with a creepy music box and a vampire watching a girl sleep. Not riveting. Maybe I'll order one more acutal disk before I give up.

Friday April 25

(this year's halloween costume. link via my new favorite site, Fed by birds.)

+I always say that the best part of the weekend is whenever your weekend starts -- when your whole saturday and sunday lay out perfectly and unspoiled in front of you.

In other words, I HAVE FRESH LINKS!

+Fed by birds. This site is akin in some ways to bibliodyssey. Ashton, this one's for you.

+Dave Cooper has some new ink drawings from his new children's book, Bagel's Lucky Hat, for only $40/each. Small. Affordable. Tempting. Link.

+Rebecca Shoenecker has some nice embroidery peices that she's done on vintage fabric. (flash site, can't link the page)

+I read about Larklight on Brass Goggles -- that they recieved funding to make a movie. I am finishing up the Artimes Fowl series, which in my heart is second only to Bartimaeus, and will be reading Larklight next. I think its about space and pirates..... hmmmm. It gets 5 amazon stars, so i'm not going to argue yet.

++The folks at Arm & Hammer obviously read my April 13 and hurried to create this handy soda container! YAY!

+A few weeks ago, I discovered the minneola tangelo. I bought it because it was the cheapest type of orange that I could find at the fancy grocery store, which I like to go to during lunch to buy food for work. The tangelo is a cross between a tangerine and some type of grapefruit. It has a little extra zing to it than regular boring nasty oranges.

In the month that I have been eating them, almost daily with total abandon, I have found the tangelo to be MOST agreeable and here are the reasons why:

1. It's incredibly juicy
2. The white inner skin is very thin and I don't end up with a cud of orange skin in my mouth.
3. The outer skin is loose and easy to remove
4. The stem has a big lump and you just grab the lump (it's hollow) and start peeling!

I am happy to share with you that all of my side projects have come to a close!!!!!!!!!!! Much more sleepypie postings to come...

Sunday April 13

Dear Diary, I have been working too hard.

I had this feeling like I was someone else, when I temporarily agreed to help a friend with a paying freelance job. She made it sound so fun, so easy, so effortless. I was forgetting that she is so crazy, so motivated and so unoccupied with weekend hobbies, like painting.

As a result, my 'fun internet time' has been virtually reduced to zero. When I DO get on the computer, I am paying bills or checking out Elsita for the briefest moment of joy.

.....BORING.

+ In upcoming news, Adam and I are going to take a handbuilding ceramics class together. We have never taken a class together - it'll be great. We'll fall in love all over again - I just KNOW IT! ha ha ha.
It's been 6 or so years since I took a ceramics class and I have been daydreaming lately about some tiny ANYTHING. Ok, specifically some tiny tiny plant pots and some tiny tiny pinchy shallow pots to organize my nightstand items -- like the Benadryl that I take every so often and my pepto bismol pills. I'm sure there will be other things that I will need them for, once I have them. Maybe earring or a lost button.

+ I also wanted to share the magic of baking soda with you. I frequently forget the amazing powers it holds. Sunday, let me tell you that I remembered baking soda and scrubbed my whole kitchen sink with it until my sink was shinier than I've ever seen it. I REALLY think the baking soda folks need to rethink that square cardboard box container with the flappy lid. It doesn't make for a practical container with that lid flying around and it always being open. Next time I'm at The Container Store, I aim to find the perfect bottle-ish, salt-shaker-ish item to put it in and then I'll remember to use it all of the time.

I confess I am not terribly earth-friendly motivated--but those 'do-it-all' chemicals can be rather expensive, not to mention toxic, and if I can use something as friendly as baking soda, then that makes me doubly happy. And who doesn't want to be doubly-happy?

Have a good week!

March was just here!
