Random
+ We've had a couple of fun Movie Nights lately -- not that any of them have ever NOT been fun -- Times Square (1980) which was like a young runaway version of Thelma and Louise if Thelma played guitar. And also, Black Moon Rising (1986) with Tommy Lee Jones which was about shoulder pads and stolen cars.
+ There's a new cooking blog I like: Closet Cooking.
+ You should look at Mark Bittman's column if you aren't already. He posts about random cooking related topics. I haven't made anything yet, but I'm very inspired.
+ Adam has been looking at Sascha Brastoff mid-century peices lately, also called "Sascha B." He is mostly known for his ceramics and there's a great write-up about him at Swank Lighting but he's not in wikipedia for some reason. I think these scratchpoint pieces are great - Flowerhead, and pictured above, Peacock. The Fancy cat!! That Adam - he's always finding cool stuff to look at.
That's all - have week full of nice weather.
Saturday MARCH 15

It's funny how things come along just at the right time, you know?
Friday night, we were browsing the 'watch it now' movies on Netflix with our tv hooked up to the computer and stumbled on Clash of the Titans(1981). It was quickly determined that I was the only one that hadn't seen it and so there was nothing else to be done except watch it! Right away!
Truly, I thought it was fantastic in every sense of the word. There was a young hunky guy, a 2-headed dog, magical weapons, Kraken!, a metal flying owl, an overgrown vulture, brief nudity, Kraken!, talking statues, scorpions that grew out of blood, pegasus, a damsel in distress --- this film has it all!!! As Adam put it, "Lord of the Rings meets Jesus." After watching it, I would call it "best film meets greatest film ever!"
AND what made it just a little bit more fun is that I'm reading a Harry-Potter-genre book right now, Percy Jackson & the Olympians, which is all about the gods instead of magicians.

My car has been filthy inside and out for a while. This morning, Adam trotted off to SXSW and I went outside and washed my car with a bucket, a rag and some soap. It was incredibly satisfying. The end.
Thursday MARCH 06

Now that I have my sexy bedside tables (pictured above), its time for the cherry on the icing on the cake -- A vintage tissue cover box. I'm on the hunt! Are you with me??? I'm thinking my only specification is NO WICKER. I fancy the idea of something soft, in case i need to pull it into bed with me. (just trying to be realistic)
I don't think this surfer ebay find is going to cut it. Although.... I would laugh every time I saw it and that's got to be worth something.

Also,
Etsy tissue covers!!
Country Farm Rooster and Hen 1950s Vintage Wallpaper Tissue Box Cover
Wallflower/Green Temple Garland tissue box cover - using Amy Butler fabrics
Supergirl Tissue Box Cover - SuperGirl Comics
Santa Ynez Valley, CA Water Tank Tissue Box Cover - Redwood
Satin and Embroidered Tissue Box Cover - Kinda liking this...
Happy Bear Tissue box Cover - Definitely the cutest - great for a kid's room

What's New?
+ I don't know what's going on in this photo. I like it.

+ I want to see that new film with Frances McDormand - A friend referred to it as "that Miss Teabag movie." 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is darn decent.
+ Saturday morning, Adam and I drove out to the country for a 3-hour Basic Pistol class. If I had a list of 100-things-to-do-before-I-die, shoot a gun was on there. I don't know that I can say it was terribly different than I thought it would be other than, there's this whole positioning of your hands and body which accounts for 90% of the shooting part. It's all about aiming (otherwise what's the point), being able to deal with the recoil and being steady. We shot about 6 different handguns - I guess we have to pay for a separate class to shoot rifles.
+After the gun class, we went straight to Uptown Modern mid-century furniture store at Adam's request. (How many people do you know can say they went from gun class to vietnamese bowl lunch to the mid century furniture store all in one day?) There, I relearned shopping lesson #1 - "Seek often and ye shall find more often." Which means, that you have to look around repeatedly and frequently to find those cute end tables before they have a SOLD sign on them. You may or may not know how hard it is to find decent end tables - the main characteristics being: with drawer, affordable, not too big, not too deep, workable color. YAY - I LOVE THEM! I feel like I'm staying at someone else's house for the weekend.
+These Nightmare Catchers on Etsy are darn cute. Oh to be 10 again.
