ARCHIVES JANUARY 2008

Wednesday January 23

First off ----> Head on over to Apartment Therapy and vote for a friend of ours and their bad-ass nursery makeover!!!! Truly impressive and I'm not easily impressed.

Also, found Yellena's etsy shop today. If I still like her work in a month, I think I'm going to buy a couple of prints for my room. And she has a blog, which I need to remember to look at later.

That's all for now.

Monday January 21

There's much to catch up on:

1. First off, I have some recipes to share, as Adam and I have been cooking our way into the new year. It started when Adam became obsessed with making Osso Buco. I'm convinced that we love the name as much as anything else, that said, it turned out awesome and I think it will become a semi regular -- will probably modify with a different cut of meat, since Veal Shank is on the spendy side. We made Tyler Florence's recipe.

Yesterday, for the Chargers game, we made Michael Chiarello's Shepherds Pie with Scallion-Cheese Crust which was the perfect food for a cold day of football. If we made this again, we would add some peas and cut the cinnamon in half. The cinnamon note was a wee bit tad stronger than we wanted. For dessert, Tyler Florence's Ultimate Cheesecake minus the blueberry topping -- we served ours plain. Also, we did 1 and a half of the crust to have a thicker crust. It's a very light and creamy version, making me think of summer. People, there's really nothing like homemade desserts. I'm hooked.

2. I tried to watch and love "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" -- though I admit I have never seen Terminator. I like robots and I thought it would be the perfect television drama to welcome into my life. The girl robot is perfectly cast... in the end, it was the Sarah Connor girl that I couldn't make good with, as she just seemed too pretty or something and she always seemed to be the one delivering the cheesy lines. AH well. [photo courtesy IMDB]

3. The last 2 blinds that we need for the house have been ordered. Whew! We've gotten all of ours from Blindsgalore. Very happy with them!

Monday January 07

If you've never baked up a dutch baby, you should do it within the week. You probably even have the ingredients on hand if you're half the wife you should be. It's easy, fun, and delicious. I made a chocolate chip one tonight after dinner. We are both still celebrating not having the stomach flu anymore. It's great to be alive and well!

Check out this
dutch baby, by Kate F. That is impressive. Normally you make it in a iron skillet... but I'm not sure if there's a reason for that.

Saturday January 05

I grabbed a bunch of odd animal sketches off the interweb and I can definitely see one of these on a shirt. I love the lower lip tusks. Wish I could find the link to where I got them.

Tuesday January 1 - **YAY HAPPY NEW YEAR**

Here's the peice my Aunt Nita made about 10 or 15 years ago. She's in her late 70's now. There's old earrings, brooches, bracelets and all kinds of shiny parts. It's about 24" tall.

This picture was taken on Jamestown Island during our trip to Virginia. I used to bike around the 5 mile loop in the early summer mornings after my freshman year of college. It was one of the nicest routines I have ever had. I can remember how much of a struggle it was to get up early enough to beat the heat. When I left late, I paid for it with sweat and came home extra exhausted. You can bet though, that I often packed a snack and drinks to make it a little easier on myself.

I'm nearly certain we saw a bald eagle along the colonial parkway, sitting in the water on top of a tree stump about 30 feet from the shore. It seemed pretty unreal... but how many other giant birds have a white head and a white tail?

Don't miss December!
