Wednesday September 1

I finished my first felty/embroidery project on this plain canvas bag that we got free with an architectural digest subscription. I'm happy enough with it, considering I had no expectations and it was purely an exercise with scissors and thread.

I enjoyed having a mindless hand project like that and have decided to definitely do a crossstitch project this fall. It'll be great for those times when I don't feel like reading my dragon book, playing Harry Potter on the Wii, baking, painting or blogging.

I have been researching designing my own pattern possibly using a crosstitch software and have been googling and reading online. There's several options out there. I mean, can you imagine anything more perfect for planning a cross stitch project than the computer!!! I can remember my mom doing projects and having her colored markers out, working out the design on some graph paper.

I am inspired by this work from At Swim-Two-Birds. I don't think mine will be quite as charmingly tactile... I definitely like that natural colored fabric she is working on. What a lovely color.
